Hi…it’s been a while! Whoops! I took a bit of a break from posting on Instagram (I needed it), and then that also crossed over to here.
But now I’m back, I have energy, and today I want to talk about what I read in July! Better late then never.
In total, I read 18 books and 6,158 pages. It was a slower month compared to every other month this year (so far), but that’s okay I found some gems.
And They Were Roommates by Page Powars (trans boy MC; young adult romance). 4.5 stars.
Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak by Charlie Jane Anders (bisexual MC, queer trans girl MC). 5 stars.
Promises Stronger Than Darkness by Charlie Jane Anders (bisexual MC, queer trans girl MC). 5 stars.
Destroyer of Light by Jennifer Marie Brissett. 3 stars.
ARC of Human Rites by Juno Dawson (trans girl MC, lesbian MC, queer and trans side characters). 5 stars.
ARC of Ascension by S.T. Gibson (polyam relationship, bisexual MC, gay MC). 4.5 stars.
The Duke Steal Hearts and Other Body Parts by Elias Cold (trans boy MC). 4 stars.
Mistress of Lies by K.M. Enright (bisexual MC, trans man major side character). Reread (5 stars).
ARC of Impossible Match by Rochelle Wolf (sapphic f/f). 5 stars.
Witch King by Martha Wells. 3.75 stars.
Make Room for Love by Darcy Liao (lesbian MC, queer trans woman MC). 5 stars.
The Bruising of Qilwa by Naseem Jamnia (nonbinary aroace MC, trans boy side character). Reread (4 stars).
A Rare Find by Joanna Lowell (nonbinary MC; sapphic enby/f). 4 stars.
52 Ways to Reconcile: How to Walk with Indigenous Peoples on the Path to Healing by David A. Robertson. 5 stars.
Huda F Wants to Know? by Huda Fahmy. 4 stars.
Volatile Memory by Seth Haddon (trans woman MC). 4 stars.
The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May. Reread (5 stars).
ARC of The Elysium Heist by Y.M. Resnik (queer MCs; 2 sapphic pairings, both F/F). 2.5 stars.
Favourite of the month:
As you can see, I read a LOT of good books in July! Picking a favourite is hard, but from the 5 stars, my favourite is Human Rites by Juno Dawson. I’ve been waitinggggggg for this conclusion to the series for what feels like so long (but really only since April 2024), and it was an amazing conclusion!
Least favourite of the month:
I think this is obvious…but I really was not a fan of The Elysium Heist. I wish I was! But the characters voices (5 POVs) felt wayyyyy to similar for the first 35% of the book. I think in books with multiple POVs, they should be distinguishable from the BEGINNING, not after X amount of time. Plus, this heist just felt like it was not explained in detail, thus making it feel like it was unachievable. The ending also felt so rushed, to the point where I have no idea where 2 of the characters end up doing. Like? Hello? WRAP UP ALL THE CHARACTERS STORIES, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
